DENTON, Texas — Alcorn State University women’s basketball traveled to face the Mean Green of the University of North Texas on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Braves fought hard but fell to UNT, 50-84.
ASU was led by Zy’Nyia White with 19 points, four rebounds, and three steals. She was followed by Tyginae Wright with eight points and four assists. Destiny Brown and Akyriale Fordaccounted for five rebounds each. Brown also racked up a team-high four blocks.
As a team, Alcorn went 33.3 percent from the field goal, 60 percent from the line and scored 22 points in the paint.
North Texas has three scorers in the double-digits. DesiRay Kernal finished the night with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. She also tallied three assists and two steals. Shamaryah Duncan scored 19 points as well while Tommisha Lampkin recorded 15 points. Dyani Robinson was the assist leader for the Mean Green with five.
Collectively, UNT went 52 percent from the field, 61.5 percent from the stripe, and scored 28 paint points.
The Lady Braves will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 16 against Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
